The "Holey Grail" of shoes by Arnie Slater

        If you have CP you probably know about the struggle. You know the one. The search for THE shoe that will last longer than six months before it becomes “Holey”. Are you a righty or a lefty? I mean which toe or heal goes first? For me, I drag my left toe but my right foot does more work… so, my right shoe gets “Holey” right under my big toe after about six months of wear. I alternate shoes sometimes but not all my shoes are THAT comfortable… so, the ones that ARE comfortable get worn more often and last the least longest.  I probably have enough Holey shoes to fill The Great Pyramids. Ladies and gents my wife will tell you. If I like a pair of shoes I will wear them out until my toes break though… Yes, I have been known to “reinforce” a favorite pair with duct tape, gorilla tape, Shoe Goo and cardboard. Why? Because shoes are ridiculously high priced. I will say that I have found a few brands of shoes that are fairly tough. They may not be cheap, but cheap shoes don’t last at al

  The Perfect Shoes! By Arnie Slater Y ou all may remember a few articles I had written and posted here about my search for the best shoes.  I had purchased a pair of Nike Zoom Pegasus33's on online.  A year ago Nike sent me a pair of Nike Zoom Pegasus36's with the Flyese zipper feature in answer to my search. Throughout the year I sent periodic updates to Nike on the condition of my shoes. I alternated the 33's and the 36's daily. This helped reduce SOME of the wear and tear on the shoes.  I'lI be honest though, I know I wore the newer 36's a little more frequently just because of the simplicity and ease of the Flyese feature.I am sure you  active folks out there with CP and other disabilities know how nice it is when it's easy to put shoes on and take them off! You also know how we wear down some shoes FAST! I am here to tell you that after a year of daily wear,and at least 3 virtual marathons, and a 10K or two, both pairs of Nike Zoom Pegasus shoes STILL
